Friday Ramblings: A Gen Y Anthem

There's something I have to admit...I am addicted to music. From classical to metal and everything in between. If I'm not listening to it or playing it, I'm probably thinking about listening to or playing it.

So, once again, I've found some lyrics that I love and think apply to this blog and what I'm doing here at Maine State CU. The first time I heard this song it was actually playing over the speakers in the lobby while I was on the teller line. It's titled "Waiting on the World to Change" by John Mayer.

It's not exactly an unknown song, but It expresses the way a lot of Generation Y views the world.

"Waiting On The World To Change"
Me and all my friends
We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and
There's no way we ever could

Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it

So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change
It's hard to beat the system
When we're standing at a distance
So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change

Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want

That's why we're waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It's not that we don't care,
We just know that the fight ain't fair
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

And we're still waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting waiting on the world to change
One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population

So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

I hope you all have a killer weekend! Drive safe and buckle up!

Great song. Love your blog. Name is Deb Trautman. I work in marketing at the Maine Credit Union League...I've been telling my coworkers about CU networking. Have you been following Open Source, Common Wealth, etc.

Thanks Deb,

I'm glad you're enjoying the blog. :)

I have been following both Open Source CU and Common Wealth's Young & Free program. They are doing great work and are great examples of what can be done with this new channel of communication.

If you look on the right side of this blog I have links to many other CU related blogs that you may be interested in.

Also, I've really started to enjoy using the forum that is up on the league site. My coworker Dan and I have been using it quite a bit in the last couple weeks.
